What’s up, Travelers! My name is Sadé Diaz, pronounced “Sha-day.” Thank you SO much for stopping by to learn more about my story. It means a great deal that you’d like to get to know each other better and learn more about our shared passion for traveling.
The Short Version
I was born and raised by a proud Afro-Cuban family in the beautiful city of Miami, Florida. I worked as a Paralegal for a billion-dollar, sports franchise. All of my years of formal education, training, thousands of dollars of student loan debt, and God’s blessing led me to my dream job. . . Or so I thought. Fast forward to today, I’ve since quit that job and moved abroad. I’m now living as an expat with my incredible husband and traveling more than I could have ever imagined.
The Long Version
There I was at 30 years old, appearing to have done everything right. I was living in a vibrant city, surrounded by a loving family and supportive friends, and yet, more often than not, I found myself sitting at my desk, typing my life away daydreaming. Physically, I was sitting, poised and proper in my office chair, but mentally I was somewhere else. Mentally, I was someone else.
You’re familiar with the aged-old quote, “when man makes a plan, God laughs.” Well, he must have been L-O-L at me. I felt, despite doing everything right, I had accomplished nothing. Throughout my childhood, I was taught that the sky is the limit. In my adulthood, however, – the way my bank account was set up, it was more like these last $20 dollars are the limit (LOL). I was living paycheck to paycheck in a recession-driven economy. My mental escape included thoughts of me traveling. It was in that state of mind that I felt most like the person I truly wanted to be. Traveling allows me to feel the most alive and free.
After an agonizing reckoning, I overcame my personal denials and decided it was worth the risk to pursue what I truly wanted out of life. Like many people’s stories, maybe I won’t discover my purpose until my last chapter of life. Regardless, I was certain that I desperately wanted my life to illustrate my passions and dreams. Therefore, when the opportunity to pursue a nomadic life presented itself, I took hold in pursuit of my goals. I quit my job, moved out of my condo, sold my car, and placed anything of importance that couldn’t fit into two large suitcases into a small storage unit. Then, I jumped on a plane headed to the opposite end of the world . . . and I haven’t looked back since.
This blog is a small chapter of a larger story – much of which is still unwritten. Jim Carey once said, “You can fail at something you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance at doing what you love.” So, here I am — trying to #LiveMyBestLife. I can only hope that my story will inspire you to do the same.
I encourage you, at least once in your life, to take a leap of faith and see how the universe rewards you for your bravery.
